Glare-free Kindle for reading under the sun

For reading, tablets can’t compare

No glare in bright sunlight
Unlike reflective tablet and smartphone screens, the latest Kindle Paperwhite reads like paper—no annoying glare, even in bright sunlight.

Won’t tire your eyes in the dark
Paperwhite guides light toward the surface of the display with its built-in front light—unlike back-lit tablets that shine in your eyes—so you can read comfortably without eyestrain. Adjust your screen’s brightness for great reading in any light.

Charge monthly, not daily
Kindle Paperwhite won’t leave you tethered to an outlet. A single charge can last up to eight weeks (based on a half hour of reading per day with wireless off and the light setting at ten), unlike tablets that need to be charged each night.

Read comfortably with one hand
Thinner than a pencil, lighter than a paperback—and over 30% lighter than iPad mini. Comfortably hold Kindle Paperwhite in one hand for long reading sessions.

No distractions
Kindle Paperwhite is purposely designed as a dedicated e-reader. Indulge your love of reading without interruptions like email alerts.

Purpose-built for reading

Kindle is designed as a dedicated e-reader. Indulge your love of reading without interruptions like email alerts and push notifications

Touchscreen display
New—A touchscreen interface makes it easier to use features like X-Ray, Goodreads, built-in dictionary, highlighting, and more. And with a glare-free screen that looks like real paper, you can read as easily in bright sunlight as in your living room

Weeks-long battery life
Kindle does not require power to maintain a page of text, allowing you to read for weeks on a single charge.

Easy on the eyes
Every time your eyes switch from a bright screen to a dimmer, ambient room, your eyes have to adjust, which may result in fatigue. With Kindle, the page is the same brightness as everything else in the room, so there’s no adjustment needed.

Lighter than a paperback
Kindle is lighter than most paperback books, making it easy and comfortable to hold in one hand for extended periods of time.

Reads like the printed page
Kindle uses actual ink particles and proprietary, hand-built fonts to create crisp text similar to what you see in a physical book. The blacks and whites on the screen are uniform, improving text and image quality.

Reads like a book…

Sharp, dark text
Enjoy text that reads like the printed page. All fonts have been hand-tuned at the pixel level for maximum readability and comfort.

Take and share notes
Add margin notes that you can edit, delete, or even export from your device to your computer. Share highlighted sections and meaningful quotes on Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads, and see passages frequently highlighted by other Kindle readers.

Flip through without losing your place
With Page Flip, you can skim page-by-page, scan by chapter, or skip to the end for a sneak peek without losing your place.

Read comfortably in one hand
Lighter than most paperback books, comfortably hold Kindle in one hand for long reading sessions.

No distractions
Kindle is purposely designed as a dedicated e-reader. Indulge your love of reading without interruptions like email alerts or push notifications.

Plus other features you’ve come to expect from Kindle

Customize to your language
Kindle can be used in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Dutch, and Simplified Chinese. You can easily select the language that you are most comfortable with, and enjoy instant dictionary lookups in any of these languages.

Read books in other languages
Kindle supports the display of non-Latin characters, so you can read books and documents in your favorite language, including enhanced support for Japanese and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional). Kindle also displays Korean, Cyrillic, Latin, and Greek scripts, and provides free access to several international dictionaries.

Follow along with page numbers
We match the pages of a Kindle book to the text in a print book to identify the corresponding page number. Easily reference and cite passages or read alongside others in a book club or class.

WebKit-based browser
Kindle has an experimental web browser based on WebKit. It’s easy to find the information you’re looking for right from your Kindle. Kindle enables you to connect to the Kindle Store and access Wikipedia, all over Wi-Fi.

Never lose a book
We automatically back up your entire Kindle library free in the cloud so there’s never a worry about losing your books. Re-download wirelessly anytime for free.

Carry and read personal documents
Email documents—including Word, PDF, and more—directly to your Kindle and read them in Kindle format. You can also send documents to Kindle using Send to Kindle.

Get special offers
Love deals? You’ll receive special offers and sponsored screensavers directly on your Kindle. Offers display on the Kindle screensaver and on the bottom of the home screen while not in use—they don’t interrupt reading.

Read children’s books and comics
Kindle supports children’s books with Kindle Text Pop-Up, and comic books with Kindle Panel View which allows you to read a comic book panel by panel.

Organize your library
Organize your Kindle library into customized collections, or categories, to easily access any book you are looking for. You can add an item to multiple collections to make organizing and finding titles even easier.

Which E-Ink Kindle

E-Ink Kindles Comparison

Which-E-ink-Kindle-Comparison

* Senses the light in your environment and changes the setting to the ideal brightness (as compared to choosing brightness manually in the Kindle Paperwhite)
** PagePress allows you to turn the page without lifting a finger. Simply apply pressure on the bezel to turn the page, a silent haptic response for consistent and immediate feedback will be provided. (as opposed to tapping/swiping on touchscreen to flip)

So, which one should I get?

Here, it really depends on your reading habit and we will distill it down to the main factors of consideration.

Do you read in the dark?

If yes, get the Paperwhite or Voyage as it has a built-in light that allows you to read in the dark.

If not, the Kindle 7/Basic will suffice.

Do you need a super HD screen?

The main difference between the Paperwhite and Voyage is that the Voyage has a super high resolution screen (300 vs 212 ppi).

This makes greyscale, images, and especially comics appear extremely clear on the Voyage. Therefore, get the Voyage if you intend to read comics or images.

If you are mostly doing normal reading, the Paperwhite’s screen is more than crisp and clear enough. You don’t really need a super HD screen for reading text.

Ultimately, consider whether it is worth playing another $130 for a higher resolution screen to read text. Our store would recommend the Paperwhite it provides the best compromise between features and price.

E-ink or Fire

How are the E-ink Kindle and Kindle Fire different?

The main difference is that the E-Ink Kindle is a dedicated e-book reader while the Kindle Fire is essentially an Android tablet.

E-ink-or-Fire-Comparison

Which one should I get?

It ultimately depends on what you are using it for.

If you are buying a device just for reading, nothing beats E-ink Kindles (Basic/7, Paperwhite, and Voyage).

If you are getting a device for light reading, with the occasional multimedia usage of apps, movies or other content, then you should get the Kindle Fire – a more versatile tablet.

More detailed explanation of the differences:

Why E-Ink Kindles rock as dedicated e-book readers

i.e. Basic/7, Paperwhite, and Voyage

SCREEN

If you have ever read for an extended period off a monitor/tablet, you will be sure to experience discomfort in your eyes or even headache due to the bright light and glare of the LCD screen.

Rather than LCD screens, E-Ink Kindles use well, E-Ink screens that are designed specifically for comfort and ease on your eyes.

With no screen glare and sharp, dark text, they are meant to replicate the feel of reading a book. In that regard, it has succeeded; reading on the E-ink screen doesn’t feel very different from reading an actual book.

BATTERY LIFE

Thanks largely to the energy sipping E-ink screen technology, you can easily get a battery life of an astonishing 4-8 weeks on the E-Ink Kindles.

This means that you can lose yourself in the world of your book instead of fretting over the next charge, making it a perfect travelling companion.

WEIGHT

Weight is an important factor if you want to read comfortably for prolonged periods.
